Transom Mount Transducer
I have a fish finder APELCO. "I can splice the transducer cable? shoot through hull transducer?
I bought a used APELCO Sound 265 Fish Depth Finder. It's time to get rid of the original flash tube! I came across the wires today and fell short by about 3 feet "I can splice transducer cables? I will soldier joints ..... The APELCO came with a mirror mounted transducer. The seller said he had mounted on his bilge and it worked fine. Sealer was still partial silicone goop around the transducer so that the story was credible. Since the wiring was short I could not install it at the bottom of the hold, but placed it next to one of the rail and press down with your foot. Unfortunately I have not had a depth reading. Empalme feasible? Shooting Transducer through hull viable? I'm not to catch fish deep to find the ability to find fair. / / Rick
It is possible to shoot through the bottom depending on the boat. I tried than in a Sea Ray boat 10 years ago and fiberglass was too thick - could not get any readings. However, I had two boats with the other transducer shooting through the bottom of the hull before that and it worked well. Both were fiberglass and the transducer is attached with silicone. Make sure that no bubbles air and not try to shoot through a crossbar, choose a space between rails.
