High Quality Carbon
Wine Importers, HIGH QUALITY, PORTUGAL
Portugal is one of the producers most famous wine in the world, but his reputation is based on table wine, but in the header of the Port and to a lesser extent, from Madeira. But Portugal also produces some excellent table wines, particularly in the north. There is an eclectic mix of grape varieties, and certainly the leader of the pack is the Touriga Nacional. This grape is the basis of fine Ports and Douro red wines and have a growing presence in many other regions. Regions are classified, as are many European wines other producing nations, so that appropriate regulations may be established. The main regions are called denominação of Controlled Origin (DOC).
Northern Portugal
In the north is the DOC Douro, located around the river of the same name. The Douro enters Portugal from Spain, where he is known as the Duero, and is home to the vineyards of the Ribera del Duero. Full bodied, meat, complex red wines can be produced here.
Dao Nearby is largely a region and from a good relationship, full bodied red, and even some white wines. Fifth Vineyards individual, as always, likely to be of higher quality.
Also Bairrada Nearby is another DOC produces a value of some good red wines, although less significant than those coming from the Douro and Dao. Bairrada has the dubious honor of remain a major source of grapes for Mateus Rosé, a medium sweet wine through carbonated supermarket shelves worldwide.
Also in the north is Vinho Verde, a region producing red and white wines, which can offer some nice quality beverage producers to mind pleasure of wine importers. Most deals, however, are terrible, so choose carefully. The wine has a slight trickle that was once due to a slight secondary fermentation, but unfortunately in modern times this is much more likely that carbon dioxide added just before bottling.
South Portugal
More south, the wines are much less important. Around Lisbon are the regions of Estremadura and Ribatejo, but do not produce great wines. A number of small sub-regions, including Carcavelos, Colares, Setúbal Bucelas and produce some interesting bottles, although rarely seen in the UK.
How much further south, Alentejo can be interesting, as can Terras do Sado. In the Algarve, a series of products as expected DOC wine forgettable. These include Lagos, Portimao, Lagoa and Tavira.
Madeira
Madeira Island is a small outpost of Portugal on the west coast of Africa, which produces a fortified wine from the Sercial, Verdelho, Bual and Malvasia grapes. It is done in a style similar to port, with the addition of grape spirit that causes the cessation of fermentation. An additional feature, however, is heating the wine, maybe at 50 º C, for about six months. This practice is apparently derived from (another story of wine up) improvements in the wine when it was found was carried in travel sea through hot climates, in the 17th century. The warming of the wine, along with exposure to oxygen, oxidizes and stabilizes. As a result, Madeira is a wine long-lived, with vintages from the early 20s and the late 19th century drinking well today.
Some of these producers also produce oil extra-virgin olive oil can be sold to importers of olive oil
