Is there a difference between rods and reels saltwater and freshwater?
I just got an Microspin Spinning Combo Shakespeare and the intent to use in the ocean. I am not looking to catch big fish, small fish only. Will stick in salt water?
The main difference these days is the size and strength. When I was a child again in the 1970s, had a friend who had a reel of 300 García Medina, oxidized to after use of salt (which put me out of that brand for life), but never turn my Penn reels had a problem. However, I have not heard of problems like the recent one, especially not with the actual computer brand, so I think manufacturers are making all their reels basically resistant to rust. A lot of people these days who use "fresh water" equipment for saltwater fishing. In general, you should only spray the rod and reel with fresh water end of the day to get the salt, and at the end of the season (or if immersed in salt water), open the reel and to clean and re-lube it. This is not so much for the rust, but more for dry salt and other litter from the coil (you should do this even for saltwater reels). The main difference between freshwater and salt will to replace the line more often, as the salt water it decomposes faster. Once the line loses its shiny new, is also losing force, which can make a big difference with very light line.
