Fishing is King on Sanibel
I started getting the idea that Sanibel must be a great place for fishermen on vacation when more and more of our tenants holiday was wondering fishing in the area. Many of our guests came from other parts of Florida, famous for its fishing, but were the choice of holiday our little island waiting to make the catch. Not being a fisherman, had no idea of the popularity of the waters around Sanibel are. Habitats are popular for all types of fish and for all types of fisherman.
The benefit of abundant water for those of us who only like cooked fish and served with a glass of white wine is that you can eat a variety of beautiful fish freshly caught and prepared in local restaurants. For large freshly caught fish, try the wood, Sweet Melissa and the Lazy Flamingo Santivan where grouper sandwiches will have to thank all the fishermen there work so hard to keep it happy and satisfied.
Talking to these athletes and control information thewww, I was impressed with the varieties of fish found and the claims made by the fishing boat captains that are guaranteed big catches.
This is the kind of fishing and the type of fish that can be expected in and near the Island:
Saltwater Fishing
Whether fishing from the beach, piers or bridges, or fishing boat in the backcountry, inshore or at sea can bring a bounty of fish. This area is known as a "fisherman's paradise." Fly fishing and saltwater light against the fishing are the segments fastest growing in the fishing industry, and Lee County is considered one of the biggest areas in Florida to pursue this type of fishing. In fact, the world several record fish have been caught in these waters.
Inshore Fishing
Regarded as the Tarpon Capital of the country, Lee County has been fishing for throughout the year "for tarpon, snook, redfish, spotted trout, sheepshead, common mackerel, mangrove snapper and many other varieties of fish. These gamblers may be caught along the mangrove coast, at the open, around bridges, piers, docks or by Wade fishing along the beaches or drift of the steps and many entrances leading to the Gulf of Mexico.
The waters around Sanibel abound in the best grouper in Florida and are full of sharks, bonito, barracuda, permit, black tuna, cobia and king mackerel and Spanish. Sight-casting for Tripletail gathered around floating objects is rapidly becoming a favorite among fishermen, and casting lines around the body or many reefs artificial sea.
Freshwater Fishing
Freshwater fishing is available all year. The fish species most often targeted by fishermen are the bass, crappie, bluegill, shellcrackers, catfish and Oscar. Common use including dealing with cane poles, plug-casting reels and spinning rods, and bait range of live worms and dark circles to plastic worms and crank baits. The areas include freshwater fisheries People of freshwater canals in Cape Coral, the Caloosahatchee River and lakes and ponds throughout Lee County. Some lakes and ponds are privately owned and permission is needed to fish them.
