Alaska Fly Fishing
I'm going to Alaska this summer, travel ideas?
I'm flying to Anchorage and would like to stay in a cabin not far away. I would ideally like experience the beautiful views and wildlife, while I am there. I'm not looking for museums, restaurants, theaters, malls, or any of that commercial shit. Does anyone have any suggestions for booths up to 100 miles from Anchorage? Landscape, fishing, wildlife, hiking, and something not too far from civilization is what we are seeking. I'm not familiar with the weather over there either (hence the months of research in advance). When is the best time to go in terms of temperate climate (with flowers in bloom)? Thanks hot dress? Is not it in the 60-70's in Alaska in the summer? It is about 5 degrees here in Chicago ... thanks for the very lame response!
Sounds like a forest or cabin service state park would be ideal for you. They are usually 10x10 to 12'x12 'booths with bunk beds and a wood stove. There is a latrine, and if a lake, there is a boat and oars. They run about $ 30-40/night to be much less than a summer hotel. One (Barber cabin) is only 3.5 kilometers of road. Others are more common about 7-15 miles a trail. Check closely if you can hike or have to fly before making a reserve. There are Forest Service cabins. And state park cabins. And booths national wildlife refuge. They are available for booking 6 months in advance, so book now. Weekends are more popular, but you are a tourist, not a local like me, with work, so can start mid-week deals. Yes, it is 60-70F, 75F perhaps in South Central Alaska around Anchorage. It also receives half of our rainfall in the summer, so be prepared for rain. In what month? I usually recommend May or September. Both are shoulder season for travel and traffic is less. Both have the day but still have the nights dark so you can see the dawn (not possible in June-July-August). Nights can get a freeze that really knocks down mosquitoes.
