Abu Garcia Black Max Catfish?
It will be fishing for catfish and Pike. Just wondering if my Abu Garcia Black Max will have for the big cats and the pike ... I have a 7 'Ugly Stik Lite I know I can take a hell of a beating and 50-pound braid stealth, which can also handle some monsters. Maximum Black has a gear ratio of 6.2:1 ... The Black Max reels are nice for the cheaper price tag (I have 2 of them myself), but not one of my top choices for Catfishing. You would be able to get away with it, but the problem will be your choice online. That will be in trouble putting any type of line of 50 pounds in this roll, which is simply not made for him. The high pound line I feel comfortable using in my Black Max coil is in the range of 15 pounds. You could go a little more than that, probably a test and get but 20 pounds is going to close the gap of quality, I do not like at all. If I were you I would be most Abu Garcia reels. I have an Ambassador who I think it is a size of 5500 and who with the Catfish. Should have on their website. Some are a bit expensive but worth the money. As for the cane, I'm not sure either. I'm not very familiar with Ugly Stiks but it is called a "lite" I think it would be a lighter action rod. If so, will definitely have to make another selection rod, preferably a heavy stock for the big cats.
